Air Force ROTC judges considered the detachment’s production, education, recruiting and retention, university and public relations and cadet activities when determining which program to honor.

“I am extremely proud of the cadets and my six-member staff,” said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Glen Lehman, Detachment 001 commander. “Receiving this award is a tribute to their teamwork and dedication.  Additionally, we could not have achieved this success without the support of the Community & Technical College and the university.”

Air Force ROTC Detachment 001 boasts approximately 30 cadets from UAA who will go on to compete for national recognition against three other regional award-winning programs.

Since its establishment in 2000 in the UAA Community & Technical College, Detachment 001 has commissioned 122 Air Force officers. The program includes students from across the university with broad academic interests. Graduates enter the Air Force as second lieutenants in a variety of career fields ranging from combat systems to missile operations to logistics.
