The award is one of seven the association recognizes at its annual professional development conference each fall. Individuals are nominated by an association member and endorsed by three colleagues through letters of recommendation. Leadership award nominees are evaluated on their professional contributions, vision, efforts to improve career and technical education, and longevity of service.

In her role as the Community & Technical College’s associate dean, LeCompte administers the College & Career Pathways program which leverages strategic partnerships between educators, businesses, and the community to prepare high school students for college enrollment or workforce entry. Under her leadership, the college is working to build the framework to transform career pathways into dual-enrollment partnerships between the University of Alaska  and secondary schools, making it possible for students enrolled in career pathways courses to earn college credit while still in high school.

LeCompte’s past contributions to career and technical education in the state include development of the AACTE Leadership Institute. The institute offers training, mentoring, and guidance to career and technical education administrators across the state. She has also worked collaboratively with UAA and association partners to develop the state's vision for career and technical education through collaboration with the National Career Pathways Network.

LeCompte currently serves as a member of the AACTE’s board of directors.
