Chugiak-Eagle River Campus goes green!

The Chugiak-Eagle River Campus (CERC) is the new home of a recycling program for paper, plastic, and aluminum thanks to the work of Student Services Manager Annie Passarello who coordinated the recycling effort with Paula Williams, director of UAA's Office of Sustainability.

An environmentally conscious institution, UAA lists sustainability and stewardship among its core values in the Strategic Plan 2017. In addition to campus recycling programs, the university is making strides to reduce its carbon footprint through green lighting, landscaping, transportation, and building projects to name a few.

The Office of Sustainability reports that from July 2011 to May 2012 UAA recycled more than 245,000 pounds of materials. See the breakdown below.
  • 1,246 pounds of aluminum
  • 334 pounds of metals
  • 3,684 pounds of plastic
  • 220,431 pounds of paper
  • 19,556 pounds of cardboard
